It's that time of year again; the "suck-bucket of winter" in New England.
The holidays are over, the decorations are gone. The snow is still piling up, and we are sick of shoveling and clearing off the cars. We have buried ourselves in our houses. We cover up in multiple layers of clothing to keep warm. We dream of those warm summer days that aren't too far away, but still aren't close enough for our liking.
Summer - Oh how we love you and hate you all at the same time.
We all do it.. especially this time of year. We look in the mirror and pick out things we would like to change about ourselves. Tighter stomach, thinner thighs, healthier looking skin... (I'm positive I could keep adding to this list forever). So why not make this the year that you do something real about it.
We watch TV and listen to radio ads that tell us how to look, how to feel, and what "New", amazing discovery can help us get there - NOW!. We've created and promoted diet pills and weight loss supplements; we try crazy fad diets - "Only eat Lettuce for 6 days and drop pounds!" or "Replace 2 meals a day with this tasty cardboard chew and the weight will fall right off!".
These are not solutions. They are not sustainable, and they do not change your habits. Think about it logically for a moment (warning: truthful statement coming); It did not take you 1 week to get out of shape or to put on the weight you want to lose. So it is certainly NOT going to go in the opposite direction that quickly either.
Everyone should strive to better themselves, get healthier, look and feel better; but it will not come easy, and it will take hard work. (argh.. it's the truth again. No one likes to hear the truth!) You need to eat healthy daily (no processed foods) and you need to exercise regularly. The moment you read that sentence and truly understand that it's your turn to take action, is the moment your new, healthier lifestyle will begin.
